If you are planning a trip to Mumbai you have to feast on the finger-licking street food.
1. Vada pav: it’s available almost all across Mumbai. It’s called the Indian burger. Obviously much cheaper. One of the best places to eat vada pav is next to Mithibhai College in Vile Parle.
2. Dabeli : It’s a Gujurati specialty stuffed with Indian masala and topped with crispy sev and pomegranate. Mostly found outside railways stations in small bankhras.
3. Paani Puri : In Mumbai people call it paani puri, if you go up north in India they call it gol-gappas. Some shops even serve the pani chilled, making it a perfect way to beat Mumbai’s heat. One of the most popular places to eat pani puri is at Elco Market at Hill Road, Bandra.
4. Sev Puri : This dish too, is one of Mumbai’s favourites. Every area has it’s own sev puriwala. Elco Market is again, famous for its sev puri.
5. Pav Bhaaji : people prefer eating it either for lunch or dinner, it’s more than just an evening snack. Most preferred is Shiv Sagar which present in the suburbs and south mumbai. It’s served with bread full of butter to enrich the taste. If you are looking for pav bhaaji at mid-night visit Santacruz west station or go to Cooper Hospital and find a redi in one of the by lanes. Cooper is also famous for it’s vegetable pulao.
6. Biryani etc: People who enjoy eating non-veg food should definitely walk down Mohammed Ali Road. The smell shall make them hungry. Famous for chicken and mutton snacks. The biryani is another famous dish. For desserts, you can get too choose from phirni, malpua, khaja and kulfi.
7. Dosas: With variations like Spring Masala Dosa, Cheese Dosa and Pav Bhaji Dosa, Mumbai’s dosawala’s have added their own tadka to the South Indian dish. Shiv Sagar and a plenty of udipi restaurants will serve this as their specialty. Also look out for dosa carts in office/shopping areas.
